Energy Audits

An energy audit is the first step to improve your energy usage. Dan Brown Eco-struction provides the tools to reduce consumption and improve your indoor environment.

What is the price to have an audit done?
Most home Audits are $399.

How long does it take?
A typical audit takes about 3- 4 hrs. The whole house is looked over very carefully. As I am there I will walk around with you and give suggestions as they come up. We will look at the exterior, interior, basement, attic, and all mechanicals. Recommendations will start to develop as the audit continues. By the end of the audit the prescriptions will be laid out in order of cost effectiveness. In most cases the first thing to do is to get out the calk gun!

What puts my audits above the others?
My experience with all aspects of construction, including: green building, passive solar design, solar hot water, solar electric, and wind turbine system installs. I have the building background to give effective recommendations that I can partner you through. Maybe it is a good idea to add more south-facing windows, maybe you need more mass, maybe you have a good site for wind. Is your TV system consuming watts of electricity even when it is off? Is a certain product safe for the inhabitants of the house? No stone will be left unturned when you have an audit done. Get an audit done and start saving energy, carbon gasses and money.

Although every building is different, here is list off some points
that the audit can cover:
The Auditor will inspect the building envelope for leakage
Review the heating & cooling systems
Identify ways to passively let the building heat, and cool itself
Review the electrical usage of the building
Consider proper & improper ventilation points
Identify cost effective ways to reduce energy usage
Lay out short and long term goals
Identify if the home is a good canadate for renewable energy
Give general costs of any home energy improvements
Lend advice to various building/carpentry practices for the “do it yourselfers”
